CONTRA COSTA FOOD BANK |
TUITION REMINDER |
|
It
is a good thing to help those in our area who are less
fortunate, namely children in need of healthy meals and
nutrition. Let your child help donate to the food bank bins in
the hallway. These will be available until 11/3. |
Each
month the tuition is due on the first of the month. If you are
absent or out of town, you may mail or drop the check by in
advance. We really do not want to charge you the $25 late fee,
but will have to if the payment doesn’t reach us by the fifth. |

PROGRAM DIRECTOR RETIRES |
SCHOLASTIC ORDERS |
|
After nearly six years at ACLC, Cheryl Evans has announced that
she will be leaving 11/30/07. She was a contributor to the
NAEYC accreditation effort and we will miss her. |
Thanks to all the parents who supported our Book Fair and also
have ordered books monthly through the Scholastic book order
forms. ACLC has been able to get many books for children for our
library. THANKS! |

EXPRESSING FEELINGS
Some
things don’t always go the way we expect. Frustration, crying,
anger over little things that just don’t go our way, fill our
day. What can parents do to defuse hot-button issues, reduce
the sad feelings, and increase the happy ones? The tools and
techniques we can pass along will reflect our feelings, too…
Give Kids the
Vocabulary
To
identify their feelings.
They need to know that feelings change, and that feelings are
different from actions. |
Come up with Solutions
Can
you think of another way to better express your anger? The book,
Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day, by
Jamie Lee Curtis helps kids explore their ever-changing
moods—from cranky, excited, to sad. The cardboard face and
dial-an-expression face lets children show how they’re feeling.
Maybe a warm hug will console a child feeling sad, lonely, or
just plain out of control.

PUT YOUR BEST FOOT AHEAD
Make
it easier for your child to remain steady in his socks or footed
pajamas by painting grips onto the bottoms. Purchase puffy
fabric paints from the art store. Make designs kids choose or
their names! It’s simple! |
MAKE A TRAIL
Have
you noticed that children naturally love to follow trails? Make
an outdoor trail by placing stones around trees, over the
sandbox, behind the swing set, etc…Make an inside trail with
yarn or crepe paper. Place it down the hall, around the sofa,
and under the kitchen table. |

TIPS FOR BOOSTING LANGUAGE AND READING
SKILLS
1. Get a library card for every member of the family. Check
out books every week…
2. Read every day to increase comprehension skills and broaden
their vocabulary…
3. Make books together. Homemade books can be elaborate or
simple…
4. Use a tape recorder and tape your child singing, reciting
poems or stories…
5. Talk to your baby during routine times like
diaper-changing.
6. Play the “I wish” game. Start with a sentence that uses
interesting words and let the child make a wish next…
7. Label objects and toys in your child’s room. This is
another way to help connect words and objects.
8. Become a family of storytellers. Tell the story of when
they were “little”…
9. Make bookmarks. Let kids decorate them… |
