Mystery Readers & Visitors
Have you participated in your child’s classroom lately? We are always looking for parents to read a story, play a game with us, or do an art project. Please see your child’s teachers to coordinate a date that will work
for you. The children love it when their parents participate in their own classroom!

"SNIPPETS" FROM THE NEWSLETTER:

Hot Topic: Brain Development
The brain is the body’s most complex and vital organ. It weighs around 3 pounds. The connections between neurons are called synapses and the more we use these synapses the stronger and more permanent they become. Brain Development is “activity-dependent,” meaning that the more we actively use our brain the stronger it becomes.

How can I help my child’s brain reach it’s full capacity?
~ Keep your child secure, when a child is exposed to trauma a chemical is released which blocks parts of the brain and make it difficult to learn.
~ Bring on the activities, children learn from everything they do.
~ Get physical, physical movement is critical to building connections in the brain.
~ Check out www.zerotothree.org/brainwonders for more information

April Fun: Rain or Shine
Here are some fun activities to do no matter what the weather is like:
~ Strap on those boots, get a jacket on and go for a walk in the rain
~ Dandelions are plentiful in the spring, have your child pick some and see what you can make with them
~ Rainbow Flowers or Butterflies: Items you need: Coffee Filters, Food coloring, eyedroppers, twist ties or pipe cleaners. Add food coloring to cups of water, have your child use the eyedroppers to drop colored water on the coffee filter, you use the twist ties or pipe cleaners to wrap around the coffee filter to make it look like a flower, or butterfly

TV and Kids
Tips to use when watching Television:
~Plan ahead – choose shows that are geared to your child’s age, children can view environments, animals, sing songs, and explore science discoveries
~ Watch Together – Use this time to cuddle with your child, help your child understand what he/she is watching, discuss what you are experiencing, and listen to what your child has to say
~ Expand Learning – Enrich tv programs by reading books and plan outings that relate to the topic you watched.
~ Limit TV – Don’t let television take place of active play, creative expression, singing and movement and problem-solving activities.
