SAFETY

HILLSIDE SHIFT

Key access cards are the way we keep our building secure. Way too many parents are lax in not using their cards, relying on admin staff to scan who is ringing the buzzer to come in. This reduces the maximum efficiency of our system.  Let’s fix this situation by:
     * using your card every time
     * giving your card to the person authorized to
        pick up your child
     * If you lose your card, get another one
        ($10).  Tell Kay.

HELP US KEEP THE CHILDREN SAFE!

Several parents have noticed that the adjacent hillside is moving due to rain. Kay has contacted landowners and the City of Danville to inquire about potential repercussions, and she has been reassured that proper people are aware and properly monitoring the slide.  With the creek between us, the children are not in danger.

LITERACY DEVELOPMENT

Reading is the heart of education.  Many parents want to know if there is a proven way to foster a child’s success in school and beyond?

Encourage and support literacy with these activities:

  • Build vocabulary and comprehension skills by talking with children, asking questions, and reading books
  • Create a language-rich environment with such things as books, magazines, newspapers, calendars, posters, charts, and maps
  • Visit libraries and bookstores regularly…
  • Provide paper and various writing implements, such as colorful pens, markers, crayons, pencils, and chalk for your child to use on phone message pads, Post-It notes, scrap paper, cards, and stationery
  • Support your child’s efforts to read symbols and labels when you are out
  • Write stories and journals.  Encourage writing efforts—initial attempts at writing will not look like adult writing, but will naturally progress from scribbling to random letters to experiences...
SPRING FLING

* Fly a kite…
   * Draw with chalk...
   * Visit a park…
   * Build a tent…
   * Have a picnic…
   * Feed the birds…
BUDDY POWER
It’s important for kids to have time to play with other children.  Play dates run more smoothly if you follow a few rules:
   * Invite a friend your child enjoys playing with…
   * Choose a time when there will be plenty of
      adult supervision…
   * Limit the number of children to one or two…
   * Set a time limit…
   * Plan a fun activity…
ENRICH A CHILD”S LIFE:  BE A MENTOR
Big Brothers Big Sisters was established in 1904.  It’s the oldest and largest mentoring program in the world.  Volunteers are trained and supervised to provide a one to one relationship with children they are matched with.  These friendships enrich and strengthen children, helping them realize their full potential…
